UK Digital TV Choices
Digital TV in the UK is due to be completely switchedover by 2012. Digital TV is the replacement to analogue TV.
The main ways of viewing Digital TV are:
- Digital Terrestrial TV known as Freeview
- Sky Digital TV via Digital Satellite TV
- Freesat also via Digital Satellite TV
- Cable TV via Virgin Media
Freeview Terrestrial TV
Terrestrial digital TV is most commonly known as Freeview and all you need is a Freeview box or Integrated Digital Tv, and compatible aerial to access the free digital television channels such as BBC3, E4, Film4 and ITV2, and still receive your usual five channels in digital.
Sky Digital
Sky Digital is available via a minidish in the UK and includes probably the most comprehensive channel choice anywhere in the world today; from Cooking to Shopping, Movies to Sports, Documentaries to Childrens Programmes, Sky has the lot – even phone and internet packages! New to Sky is an ever increasing range on HD channels, available on their HD box with built in Sky Plus recorder.
Cable TV
Cable TV in the UK is available via Virgin Media and signals are fed to your home via underground cable structure. They offer more choice of channels than Freeview but less than Sky Digital, with great offers on phone, internet and TV packages.
